IAN MCCALL TALKS LATEST INJURY WHICH FORCED HIM OFF UFC FIGHT NIGHT 73

Ian McCall was slated to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out because of injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast this Sunday to talk about his latest injury. Injury that compelled him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I am literally at the physicians now speaking about it. It’s exactly what it is, we train hard and I’m fragile apparently. I have to pull out of a lot of s**t. It sucks, but if you train as hard as I do and you have been doing this as long as I do, its part of the game.” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was only been plagued with injuries and it is frustrating. This is my chief source of income, I have other things I do however, that is my main source. I have a little girl to feed, I feed my own and it sucks. However, on a different note, this is my passion; this is precisely what I love to do. I am 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I have already been in struggles for 13 decades. To watch my body neglect me time and time again it’s hard. It’s one of these things it makes you wonder a lot. I am such a healthy individual, my loved ones is like incredibly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, which is bad. I am sure I’ll have to get a hip replacement eventually. I have had three hand surgeries. I got into a car crash not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always a thing, but it’s far better than having an actual job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I’ve been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in different ways, it could be worse, I could be dead. I might have lost full use of my arm or whatever. There are a whole lot of things I look at. I must keep a positive attitude because I have to be a good role model for team-mates and my child. It is one of these things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I believe that now he’s discovered a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and becoming better. I think he will beat Dodson, is he going to finish [him]? I really don’t understand. I believe this is one guy he’ll have difficulty finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one minute left, and as far as I want to beat his face in, he is incredible. He is the exact guy you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m going to go with him on this one for certain.” Loss to John Lineker”Oh man that was huge. I got overly emotional; I showed the first round that I could definitely overcome him. People were just like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the guy still isn’t very good I must have overcome him. I think I showed that you’re not likely to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face will split open until you knock me out and that is exactly what happened. With me it’s outside things, they always distract me, girl issues or what have you. I just kind of fell apart after that first round. I’m smart enough to understand that I was going to drop that struggle sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came about and said hi and I’m just kind of like, I am screwed. That was a psychological thing, that’s always been my biggest downfall. I have a new mental coach, he is my mind Sherpa. He is overall made me a better person. As far as my optimism goes, he is a big part of it” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there is other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let us say this injury is 6 months, they’ll talk about me after that, that is fine. You can find different people that deserve it. It does matter how good I can be or how great I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to fight, the branch needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I do not mind it, it is cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as a single father”Yeah it is not easy; realistically I don’t know anything about women. I understand how to get one in bed that is about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s happening?’ Don’t cut your hair, do not put soap in places, like I don’t know. Realistically I have a lot aid, I live together with my father. My dad got a divorce, he explained proceed in, and I will assist you. My daddy’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mom is still around; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of help. So I’m not going to say I’m doing this alone, because I’m not. It takes a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even though there are times where I have to take her into the gym, there is always some one there. She’s pretty damn independent I will take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She is going to be alright.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design firm; the sole fighters I hang out with are either people I am forced to hang out with or my buddies. I hang out with artists, fashion designers, artists and musicians and materials. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is really comfy; obviously Reebok creates a fantastic item. I don’t know who left the design, no matter what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t match anything, it is just awful. But maybe I’m wrong; perhaps I am looking for something a bit cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that’s all that matters. It is an evolution of the game. We wanted it to excel, sure we are not likely to have paid that much money but it’s what it is. If you’ve got a issue then quit, these are the amounts we have to deal with. If you’re smart and you are able to market yourself and promote yourself in ways like I have. I have external sponsors; I’ve Layrite, which is like a hair and mustache product. I have got a great deal of clothing and lifestyle businesses. I get a lot of exposure from stuff like that. People today need to learn t to step away from the box, make money for themselves and have a wise agent” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at exactly the exact same time they run a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that is a premiere sports league. If you see the machine which is your UFC, in the inside it’s incredible. The people are excellent; the business design is just remarkable. I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about the way that it’s all operate, it’s amazing if you enjoy company. The thing is they did not have to consult with us since it is their business. We’re a commodity; as much as I wish to say cool we ought to be earning money such as baseball, soccer and basketball. Since we should we are actually putting our lives on the line. But we’re not and I do not wish to quote Urijah Faber, he stated’I never got into this for the cash’ frankly I get it, I’m a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I am always going to be fine. I’m always going to find ways [to make money]. I have part of a social media company, I have a show that I host called Direct Endorsement, and it’s a big charity thing. I’ve got other stuff that is likely to make me money, therefore I will be ok. I really do believe for guys that don’t have much else or men that aren’t that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I have a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we constantly talk about it but it’s a little bit of a drive out of my house with all the visitors. I’ll be up there shortly, I have to do some stuff in the region so that I’ll be on there shortly.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma and his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
